Greater BMD increases after zoledronic infusion

A single infusion of zoledronic acid is more effective at increasing bone mineral density than daily risedronate in men on glucocorticoid therapy, Australian research finds.
A 5mg zoledronic acid infusion increased BMD at the lumbar spine by 4.7% after 12 months in men on glucocorticoid therapy for more than three months, compared with 3.3% in those given 5mg of oral risedronate daily, a study of 265 men found.
BMD at total hip increased by 1.8% in patients given zoledronic acid compared with 0.2% in those treated with risedronate, according to the study by Professor Philip Sambrook and colleagues.
