Erectile dysfunction-CVD link confirmed

A link between erectile dysfunction (ED) and cardiovascular disease in men with type 2 diabetes has been confirmed by data from the large ADVANCE study.
Coordinated by the George Institute for International Health in Sydney, the trial investigated the effects of blood pressure lowering and intensive blood glucose control. The 6,300 male participants, aged from 55 to 88, were asked about ED at baseline and throughout the study.
After controlling for existing cardiovascular illness, psychological health and classical cardiovascular risk factors (smoking, hypertension and high cholesterol levels), ED was associated with a 19% increase in all cardiovascular events during five years of follow-up.
There was also a 35% increase in coronary heart disease, and a 36% increase in cerebrovascular disease....
