Hormone theory of homosexuality sparks debate

A controversial argument that homosexuality is partly caused by atypical endocrine conditions during foetal development is posed in the latest issue of Endocrinology.
 
Jacques Balthazart from the University of Liege in Belgium wrote that “multiple sexually differentiated behavioral, physiological, or even morphological traits are significantly different in homosexual and heterosexual populations”.
 
Because some of these traits were known to be organized by prenatal steroids, including testosterone, he said these differences suggested homosexual subjects were “on average, exposed to atypical endocrine conditions during development”.
 
He also argued that clinical conditions associated with significant endocrine changes during embryonic life often resulted in an increased incidence of homosexuality.
