Programs to screen for type 2 diabetes should be introduced despite a lack of conclusive evidence as to their probable efficacy, three Melbourne-based experts have said.
The authors’ argument, published in Pathology, comes amid a rapid increase in the prevalence of the condition and adds to a growing chorus calling for the introduction of screening programs in Australia. “By identifying people with undiagnosed diabetes, the burden of diabetes complications could be lessened through appropriate management of the condition” they wrote.
