Osteoporosis risk ignored in minimal trauma fractures

By Winnie Yong  Osteoporosis is being under-diagnosed and under-treated in older patients with minimal trauma fractures, a study suggests. Of 131 patients aged 50 and over who presented to the emergency departments of three hospitals with a minimal trauma wrist fracture, none were referred for bone density testing by the emergency department or fracture clinic. Only about 30% of the 91 patients interviewed after leaving hospital reported having had the test post-fracture....
